AFRICALIVES! sponsor of the British Award for Africa Development - BRAAD EVENT

AfricaLives! was very proud to financially sponsor, support and attend the BRAAD event and ceremony on 30th October 2015 at the Crowne Plaza in London. At AfricaLives! we support with financial contribution and media coverage some very good initiatives within the African diaspora and Congolese community, because it is very hard to work on projects to unite African diaspora and Congo DRC in particular beyond empty political speech.

Of course the fact that this Conference will go ahead despite the recent Paris Attacks is to the credit of the French spirit and its Government. Let's hope nations demonstrate the same commitment on Climate issue and sustainable development in Africa. READ MORE

Promoting Projects for

Social change

We are dedicated to projects for social change, encouraging positive social change using Films, Theatre Art and committed to strong advocacy work.

In a world where Africa is often depicted as un-resourceful, needy and perpetually begging for international aid, we aimed to challenged these stereotypes and perceptions with our Art and Advocacy work. Africa Lives! and is beginning to thrive as a continent. This is our journey.

Reviews are in! 'The White Devil' was sold out and gets 3 stars which is good but I am surprise there is no mention at all of any of the women involved in the play..as you do when the play's main protagonist is actually a woman! 'The White Devil' is based on the real life of Vittoria Acorramboni after all...

Portrait of Vittoria Accorabomni

Portrait of a Lady attributed to Jean-Etienne Liotard

Shakespeare contemporary John Webster (1580-1534) wrote his play ‘ The White Devil’ based on the life of VittoriA Accoramboni, who has also inspired Stendahl’s novel.

Through the character of Zanche, a Moor and servant to Vittoria – to be played by Shana Mongwanga – we glimpse into the life of women of African origins in the 16th- 17th Century.

                                       'I have blood

As red as either of theirs …
I am proud
Death cannot alter my complexion,
For I shall ne'er look pale.'
(Act 5 sc 6) ‘ Zanche in the White Devil.

'Things are as they now are. And move towards fulfilment of their destiny.'

NDO KELA
The Aborted Initiation

Play by Koulsy Lamko
Adaptation by Shana de Carsignac Mongwanga

Introduction:The Play was awarded second prize at the 16th Inter- African Theatrical contest organized by RFI in 1989.
Bagoua , a large village of the damned hills of Guera, the crossroads of all the calamities for people shamelessly exploited .
In a final burst , four young people confiscate the direction of the tribe from the elders and dare to reinvent the future by requiring every person work, solidarity , integrity and respect for others.

Will they succeed in the impossible challenge in the midst of scorpions crawling deep amongst those suddenly see their peace disturbed ? Aren't they going too far ? And too fast?
Victorious or not, Sankadi and his  friends will in all cases traced in every heart the glowing outline of a new life.
( Presentation of the cover of the 4th Edition)
